Hey,
My wife has gone into my computer and changed settings on
her computer and has numerous errors and need to find out
how to restore the default settings for everything. I
tried reinstalling XP but it retained the changed
settings? Help! I don't want to wipe and reformat the
drive it contains numerous pictures that can't be
replaced !

Thank
Doug

There are system settings and user settings.
Try loggin on as someone else to see if the other logon
is different. Most of the settings that affect the visual
stuff are user settings. If you create a new logon, it
will have the defaults.
If you try to use the same logon, a reinstall will retain
all the settings the user changed, unless you delete or
rename the original Windows and Documents and Settings
folders before reinstalling. This latter solution would
delete your valuable user data.

So try going to Control Panel, User Accounts, and create
a new account. Then you'll need to copy your data from
your My Documents folder, and any Internet Explorer
Favorites you want to migrate into the new account.
