My second computer has only one identity on it. I changed
the password to make sure my son was not going on the
internet when I did not know it. After changing the
password a time of inactivity left me with absent minded
about what I had changed the password to. How do I get
into the computer to find out the password or recreate a
new password. I tried to follow the create a new password
reset disk but the computer did not respond as the
directions said it would and I did not get the options I
needed to proceed. Please Help!

Joline;
The Reset Disk must be created before it is needed and then stored
away in a secure location until needed.

The password is Case Sensitive.
Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations.

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.

Here are other options:

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/product.cfm?id=265&affid=wxpnews

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform
a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.

After this is resolved, take precautions to not lose the password.
