My PC has stopped recognizing my Sony digital camera and one of the hekp
directives is "reset Bios defaults"
Anyone know how to do this?

Bad advice - That's a reach, something that has a low % of fixing
your issue. More likely, it will introduce other issues. Who offered
you this advice ?

Entering the bios varies depending on machine, for example I have a sony
vaio, when the system is restarting I need to hold down the f2 key during
reboot, this will enter the bios. For my bios the reset is on the exit tab
of the bios.

Got a chuckle out the OP myself.

The bios is not something that changes on it's own. The operating system
does not alter the bios. Unless you have been in there monkeying around,
that is NOT the cause of your recent problem. Stay out of the bios.

Thanks to each of you for your responses/advice. I have a Dell and Windows XP
Home. The advice to restore Bios defaults was on the Sony camera
troubleshooting guidelines.
For some crazy reason, my computer stopped recognizing my Sony digital
camera and consequently the XP program that downloads the photos from the
camera to the hard drive does not work.
I have not been in the bios before yesterday. I was able to see it by
hitting either F2 or F12, but just exited w/out changes. I couldn't see
anything that said "restore defaults" so just left as is and exited.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Maybe, The camera may already be in your Device Manager but has
gone to Phantom or "Not Connected" status. Because of this when you
plug it back it - XP doesn't recognize it. This happens when you plug
a USB peripheral into a different socket.
Use Device Manager (w/ Camera unplugged), Click View, tic/check
"Show Hidden Devices". Expand the Digital Imaging category. If you
see your camera listed, but shown in diminished tone or grayed out
then Right Click the listing and choose Uninstall. Remove all instances
of the camera. Then re-insert your camera's USB plug.

I assume you are using a USB port to connect your Sony Camera. Make
sure you are using the same port that was used when you installed the
Sony software. If it doesn't come up there then try un-installing the
Sony SW and re-install. You may have to wait to connect the camera
until the install program requests.

Thanks. I actually found a fix when I went into Window XP Photos on this help
site. Apparently has been a common problem when Real Player 10 is installed.
I removed Real Player 10 and a few other recently loaded items (e.g. ITunes)
rebooted and all was back to normal. Thanks again for your advice.

Thanks for the follow-up, seems like a few other postings recently on
some issues with iTunes and Real Player. Guess MS needs another
flag besides compatibility mode, "Doesn't Play Well with Others".
