I'm trying to help my father-in-law out...bless his heart, he is in a mess!
His computer seems to be loaded with spyware/malware and his browser is
highjacked and his favorites are filled with all kinds of stuff he didn't put
there.
I've run in safe mode and regular mode the following: Ad-Aware SE,
CWShredder, Search & Destroy, and McAfee Virus Scan. After cleaning out all
temporary files, running the spyware cleaning programs, and resetting his
home page, his browser still has "res://shdocpe.dll" as his home page.
His windows updates are not current either because he apparently didn't
think it was necessary. His computer is so bogged down and slow, it's hard to
function at all to get anything accomplished.
I looked at the processes he has running and there are several things in
there that look suspicious. Should he have 5 or 6 srvrhost.exe's running?
