Windows XP Home Edition;

I'd like to set the system up so that when my kids load their games s/w in
their own account a shortcut is not placed on every other users' desktop. In
the same vein, when I load s/w (eg camera download software) I do not wish my
kids accounts to automatically have a shortcut to that program created on
their desktop (and ideally not see the program at all)

In general terms what I seek is :

(i) When a user (be them supervisor or simple) installs a program a shortcut
is ONLY created on that account's desktop.
(ii) When any account deletes deletes a shortcut it is not removed from
other accounts' desktops.
(iii) when a supervisor loads a program the to make it possible that the
program is only available to the supervisors' accounts and a shortcut icon
should not be placed on any other accounts.

Is any of this possible ??

TiA,

Roger.

1) This is really under the control of the setup program (some will ask if
you want to create shortcuts for "All Users" or just "Current User").

2) I assume that when you say "Desktop", you really mean "Start Menu". If
that's the case, it depends on the location of the shortcut. If the shortcut
is located in the "All Users" start menu folder (right-click Start button,
go to "Explore All Users"), then deleting the shortcut there will delete it
for all users.

3) If the other accounts were Limited accounts and not Administrator
accounts, then this might be possible via Group Policies on XP Pro. However,
since you're using XP Home, this isn't going to be easy to configure. You're
better off using third-party parental control software.
