REQ: XP Close program suggestions

Fed up to the back teeth with the XP Task Manager method of Closing
Down recalcitrant programs. Used to have a beaut in the good ol' days
of Win ME (possibly called ?Win 2K??) but it wouldn't work under XP.
Any recomendations for a good, simple program closer, preferably with
a program "Restart" option?

Close apps automatically & quickly at shutdown.
Open Registry by going to START-RUN and typing REGEDIT. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP and look for AutoEndTasks.
Default value is 0. Change it to 1.
Close Regedit & Reboot.
