Sorry for reposting this- I'm having trouble with
add/remove program. This is the chain of what has been
going on - Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
for those who have been helping.
remove programs feature (i can install programs, but i
can't get into the "add/remove" program to uninstall).
I have also had other problems being denied access to
new documents. I am the only user and am the
administrator, no network etc. Any ideas?

Mary,
What is the specific message you're getting, if any? If
its along the lines of "you don't have access.......
contact your Administrator", this may be a simple
Registry edit.
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Policies\Uninstall
Look in the right pane for a value called
NoAddRemovePrograms. If the value exists, it should be
set to 0 (zero). If not, double click this value and
change it. If it doesn't exist, right click in a blank
area of the right pane and select, New, DWord value.
Name it NoAddRemovePrograms and leave it set at 0.
If you're getting a different error message, post back
with the exact details.

I have gotten that type of message for other things on
many occasions (trying to access documents, windows media
player etc.) However with the add/remove program, I do
not get any error message, it seems to "ignore" me when I
click the link- no response at all. I have tried to go to
Windows Help and access the program from there, but it
gives me the message: "The operating system could not
start this program. This may happen if: your computer is
on a network, you need to install hardware...." with
several other generic possibilities.
Also, even though it doesnt give me the error message you
suggested, I checked the registry editor - In the
policies folder there is no uninstall, only an "explorer"
folder. Don't know if that is relevant.
