Hi all,
I've been tasked with exporting an Access 2003 report to Word. I've
tried this using SendObject to RTF but it seems a bit flaky. Searching
on this seems to reinforce the opinion that RTF is not going to work.
For various reasons I cannot use the Snapshot or PDF alternatives so I
think I'm going to have to try and write a DOC format. Does anyone know
of anywhere I can get some in-depth info on this or has anyone actually
succeeded in doing it with reasonably complex reports? Any hints
gratefully received :-) .

I just wanted to piggyback on your post. I've experience the same thing with
RTF. I especially dislike loosing my graphics. The column heading can get
jumbled also. Snapshot's great, but not in common use. I'll be interested
to see what replies you get. Also like to see a general discussion of RTF
problems and possible solutions.

So far I've used a straight search/replace in a template I built first
in Word, very similar to a mailmerge approach. This is simple and works
fine for single records but I'm going to run into trouble when it comes
to adding detail events (insert tables and the like) I think. I suspect
I may be wasting time looking for an easy way out of doing some hard coding.

I run into this exact issue almost daily. Some of my Access reports go over
in RTF just fine(very basic and simple data just words and figures). Others
with any borders, headers, empty lines, completely lose the graphical,
visiually required data from the report. I'm after the same solution if
there is one. I'm responsible for 5 large databases that all run off of a MS
Access or a hybrid platform of it. When I tell the non-technical staff that
this report won't convert to a word doc and be beautiful, they are simply
baffled and confused. I have not explored PDF since most of the forms need
to be electronically completed by others. If there is an easy solution out
there I would love to read about it.

There isn't one. The ONLY built in export format the supports graphical objects
of any kind is Snapshot Format.
