if I'm getting help from a particular expert and want to have him clarify something he wrote, how do I send a "reply" so that it goes back to that same person, and doesn't get answered by someone new who doesn't understand the problem? (which is what just happened to me).

If you want to attract the attention of someone in the group, list their
name in the subject line. ATTN: Expert

Hi Jon,

Click on the message created by the expert you want further information
from, and click on reply. Keep in mind that there is often more than one
solution for a problem, and that the whole idea of these communities is that
everyone participate and help where they can. Sometimes, it may be awhile
before the person you are responding to comes back and sees the message you
sent.

You don't. This is Usenet, not MS technical support and many (if not all)
MVPs (who are not affliliated with MS in any way, shape or form) will simply
delete unsolicited mail without reading. This is the only place you're going
to get replies. In fact many will have words to that effect in their
signatures.

You post here - you come back here for replies and take your chances.
