replies go to same folder rather than sent mail

When I reply to an email, my copy of the reply shows up in the folder that
the original message was in rather than the sent mail folder. For example I
can reply to an imail in my inbox and the reply is automatically stored in
my sent mail folder. If I move that email from my inbox to folder A and then
reply, the reply is stored in folder A rather than sent mail.

I have some rules applied but none have to do with outgoing mail.

This isn't a huge issue but is a pain to then move the email manually to
sent mail.

thanks

What version of Outlook? (always post your version/mode/SP level - help |
about will tell you this).
In OL2003 (and, I think, 2002) go to tools, options, email options, advanced
email options, and see whether there's a tickbox next to "in folders other
than the inbox save replies with original message".

Assuming Outlook 2003 (and perhaps older versions), go to Tools > Options >
Email Options > Advanced Email Options > and deselect "In folders other than
the Inbox, save replies with the original message".

Yup - I just didn't dig deep enough. It works in OL2000 too.

In Outlook XP...

(1) Select 'Tools->Options' from the menu bar.
(2) Click the 'E-mail options' button in the Preferences window.
(3) Click the 'Advanced e-mail options' button.
(4) Remove check from "In folders other than Inbox, save replies with
original message".
