I need to replace all occurence of texts in "Normal" style with "Body text"
style in a rather long document. Is there a way to do this automatically
without having to do each replacement manually using the "Format Painter"? Or
without changing the formatting of "Normal" style?

Use Find and Replace. Display the dialog and click the More button. Select
the Find What box. Click Format > Style and select Normal; otherwise leave
the box empty. Similarly with Replace with: set the format to Body Text.
Then click Replace all.

Is there a reason why you couldn't just right click on Normal in the
Style Pane and click "select all n instances", and then click Body
Text?

This method only works on Word 2002 and 2003. The OP didn't mention what
version they were using.

This is a good example of how the task pane saves quite a bit of work. :)
