ok..i know this might not be the smartest thing in the
world, but im trying to customize some of the icons that
live in shell32.dll, but windows wont let me over write
the file. is there any way to bypass this "secuity"
feature??

It's not a security feature. The file is simply locked because it's being
used while Windows is running. You should be able to replace the file from
the recovery console. Good luck messing up your system!

Speaking of Security features though - you'll need to replace the file in
%WinDir%\System32\dllcache as well.
