I have an older XP (orig release) PC and the drive
is about to go. The hardware BIOS can handle
a large (250GB) HDD, but my original XP can't.

Is there a way to load XP onto a 250 giger using
a device driver? Any other way?

TIA,

Ed

Why can't your original XP handle a 250 GB HDD?

Any boxed HDD should come with installation software that will transfer your
old drive to the new drive.

Make a slipstreamed XP CD including SP2, and your problem will go away.
There is good information on Slipstreaming SP2 here:

Do you have SP1 or SP2 on the existing install? If you do then use a disk
imaging program to clone the old disk to the new one. If the hard disk is in
a retail box then there is probably a CD included to do this. If it isn't a
retail drive then you can download it from the manufacturer's site. If you
want to do a clean install of XP to the new drive then you need to
slipstream a CD with SP1 or SP2. See Ken Blake's post for details.

Kerry -

As recommended, I created a slipstream CD and it
worked PERFECTLY. Let me know when you're
in town - I'll buy you a cold one !! Thanks so much.

Your welcome but Ken Blake beat me to the punch with the slipstreamed CD
help. I'll still take the beer thought.

LOL! You can have the beer. I'll wait until he offers me a glass of wine.
