hi.i want to replace my current dvd rom drive as its goosed,or at least i
think it is as it wont read any discs any more, dvds or cds,its approx just
over a year old..!! its a sony ddu1612. now ive tried unistalling it and
putting a diff one in just so i can check that its the drive thats faulty
and not an internal connection or lead. but when i reboot after fitting the
new drive nothing happens..no bootup? but it boots straight up when i put the
sony back in?..do i need to change my bios settings or am i missing
something..my sony drives shows up on the bootup screen along with my hdd and
dvd-rw....mucho help appreciated
thank you please..

so how do i go about changing the bios settings? do i do this before i take
the old drive out? as i cant access my pc after i take the old drive out..as
it wont boot up?......what do i need to change?

The BIOS is not on the hard drive and it is not accessed after the computer
is booted up. The BIOS is what boots the system. Please don't go into the
BIOS until you know more about it. A mistake can render your computer
unable to boot. Here is a good tutorial: http://www.pcmech.com/bios.htm.
Take a look and then return here with your question. This is a vital area
of your computer to understand.

Check to see if you have set the new drives jumper settings to 'master' or
'slave' correctly. Set the new drive the same as the old and the BIOS should
auto-detect anyway
