Thanks Rick.
I understand your advice and I realise that 'full' security is the way to
go, it's just that I've read so much about the complexities involved in
setting it up, never mind the pitfalls that lie ahead for the novice. I'm
sure I'm not the first person to shy away from this complicated feature.
Also, I'm reluctant to even try setting up security using a backup copy, as I
fear that I will somehow introduce some different way of working for all
users in my networked environment.
I say this because I had a go at setting up security on my own PC/Access 97
at home some time ago. Obviously I only got so far, but since doing this I
have a window that appears every time I open Access, asking me for a password
which doesn't exist - I simply click OK and I'm then able to choose an mdb to
open. But the point is, I have a window appear that I didn't have before. I
don't want to inadvertantly create something like this for all users on my
network who use Access.
Anyway, I know that this is a big topic - some people do not even trust
'full' security, so I guess we all have to decide how far to go bearing in
mind the likelyhood of anyone actually wanting to gain unorthorised entry to
a given mdb and the worst case senario if they manage to do so.
Thanks again, JohnB
