I have found nothing better (for my Win98se pc's), free or otherwise, than
Norton Utilities.

For 98se and below I agree, but for XP I just use what Bill has
provided. I will not use Norton again. Their software is more spyware
than helpful. Plus, check the XP forums and you will continually run
into Norton problems.

Use Norton Go Back at your peril. My lights went out for
about ten seconds last month, and when my computer came back on, I was
stuck in an endless loop with a Norton Go Back error message. Took it
to the shop, and had to format my hard drive and re-load Windows to
get it working again.

Agree with that.
See my Norton SystemJerks post at

any company expect to sell their product when their tech support is so
terrible?
