Does anyone know of software that does what the Subject facilities do but
does it faster?

ccleaner for Disk Cleanup
Disk Defrag, it can in any case be a slow proccess it depends on a number of
factors, disk size and usage for a start

CCleaner has more extensive cleaning capabilities, but don't use the
registry cleaner. Just use it to remove unneeded files.

Defragmenting a disk takes time. There are 3rd party tools, but frankly you
don't need them. That said there are several good ones including
PerfectDisk and Diskeeper. I'm not personally familiar with any others.

There aren't any. The bottleneck is the speed and amount of data on the
drive. There are other apps will do the same, but not noticeably faster.

try Auslogics Disk Defrag, free , fast and shows the little moving boxes.

Disk Cleanup is a piker.

I have Disk Cleaner set to run quiet at startup. Runs for 5 seconds or so
and exits. I also like the fact that, after you set it up, it cleans all
the following with one click (and/or automatically at boot). Makes XP's
Disk Cleanup look like a piker. XP's Disk Cleanup will *not* clean
Content.IE5.

Disk Cleaner will Clean:
Temporary Internet Files {Including the contents of the Content.IE5 folder}
Internet Cookies
Internet History
System Temporary Folder
Recent Documents
Run... Dialog List
Find Document List
Find Computer List
URLs in IE Address Bar
URLs in Shell Address Bar
Media Player Recent URLs
WinZip Recent Files
WinZip Extract To Folders
Paint Recent Files
WordPad Recent Files
Cleans Recycle Bin (what else?)
Opera Cache
Opera Cookies
Opera History
Opera Visited links
Opera Download History and Download folder
Firefox Cache
Firefox Cookies
Firefox History

I use PerfectDisk and it works like a charm. I heard that Raxco, the
makers of PerfectDisk have something new comming out on May 8th. Don't
know what it is but the word is that it's gonna do tons of stuff for
PC health. I'll write again after the 8th and tell what's up.

Diskeeper proffesional has a screen saver mode where it will defragment
whenever you are not using your PC.

Having said that there is usually no reason you can't run Windows
defragmenter and still use your PC.
It's not like using Win98 where you couldn't use your PC. The only problem I
have had doing this is video files stuttering when they are actually being
moved by during the defragmenting process, otherwise I doubt you would
notice, though I suppose it depends on the speed of your PC.

I know DK used to have a Screensaver mode in v10 but they took it out
in DK 2007. PerfectDisk 8 has a Screensaver mode if that is a must
have feature for you.
