Replace Icons Within Applications/DLLs?

Greetings all,

Would anyone know of any available third-party programs that support
extracting, modifying then reinstalling icons within applications and/or
dll's?

I understand that icons are a resource, and edits to "UpdateResource" may be
a possible solution, but I'd rather not tinker (even if I understood the
complexity of it all) given the opportunity to use a program designed for
that purpose.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

Don't even think of messing with the .dll's. Yes, you can extract the icon
images. No, you don't even want to try to insert a modified icon image back
into a .dll file. Do you like to cause yourself pain and grief?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the program. I tinkered around with it a bit using a duplicate
folder. I successfully changed the icon (there was only one - 32x32 : 16)
that I exchanged with another 32x32:16. The icons were changed in my Program
Files and Settings files, as well as identifiers to the programs throughout
my file system, but did not change in the system tray- the only reason I
wanted to do it!

Any ideas? I used both replace bitmap and replace icon. Refreshed, killed
and reactivated explorer.exe and restarted. No system tray change. As well,
no "Notification Area" change.

Are these images cached? If so, where can I delete them? If not... I'm
stumped!

Thanks again,
Jeff
