Hi. my son's computer keeps coming up with 'low disk space' errors.
As well as the C drive (which is full and where all the system files are
loaded) he has a D drive which still has a lot of space. So I'd like to
merge / repartition the 2.
Can someone please tell me how to do this?
OS Win 2000 / have disc
Prepared to reformat if necessary. Risk of any loss of data, not a problem.
(most of it rubbish anyway)
Thanx

Hello
To prevent data loss, you can use third party utility like
Partition Magic 8.0 to
merge the partitions. Or you can use fdisk.exe to do merge the
partitions. All data will be lost using the fdisk.exe

Thank you Madhur
I just found an article in support.microsoft.com
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;255867#2
I hope it ends up simpler than it sounds

When you say loss of data, does that apply to both drives or just the
secondary one? and is that what one calls the 'slave drive'?
If it applies to the C drive as well I will have to reload Win2000 again
right?

Like Madhur said PM would work or possibly;

HOW TO: Expand the Boot Partition During a Windows 2000 Upgrade
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q289876

The best option would be the clean install.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
