Repairing XP Pro

I did an uninstall (inside Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs) and now my system would not start. It says a
certain DLL cannot be loaded (MSGINA.DLL) While I
managed to put a new copy in my SYSTEM32 folder, the same
thing still happened.

I gave up that route and decided perhaps I have to
repair/reinstall. But I DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO LOSE
STUFF IN "MY DOCUMENTS", so I wish to avoid any action
that involves FORMATTING my C drive. (Unfortunately My
Documents is on my C-drive.

MY QUESTION: If I reinstall XP Professional on C, does
this invoke formatting (and erasure of my data)?
Notes: I don't have another volume, only one hard disk,
and a single partition on it. (It's bad I know!)

Can anyone help? Thanks!

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

I would make backups of stuff I didn't want to lose, just in case.
