My winxp PRO suddenly stopped working (won't load further than the winxp
logo before restarting itself).

I remember that the Winxp CD has a repair option but can't remember how to
get there or is there a particular version of windows I need to be using.

Anyone have any idea?

Boot from the CD ROM and go as if to install XP again.

As you go through before installation starts it gives you the opportunity to
repair.

Can't remember the exact wording but it says something like Do you want to
install a new copy of windows, do you want to repair an exisiting
installation.

When you you hit R for repair it scans your discs for any Windows
installations it can find and asks which installation you want to repair.

It then runs through a similar process to normal installation, but retains
your device drivers, software and data.

After repair run Microsoft Update repeatedly until all patches have been
reapplied.

Boot from the CD and choose Repair (not Repair Console).
