I had to repair a Windows XP operating system here at work and now we lost
all of our email messages (inbox/delete/etc.) Any ideas on where I can search
to import the messages into the Outlook Express?

Do a search for files with a dbx extension

*.dbx

Start > search > All files and folders > *.dbx [ in "All or part of the
filename box"]

Jon

I tried the *.dbx search - did not work. Thanks!

Try searching *.PST and *.PAB. I don't know if it's the same for express
but those are the folders we look for when we look need to move stuff using
Outlook.

Before clicking to start the search .. slide down the bar to "More advanced
options"
Check the "Search hidden files and folders" option

Also in "My Computer"

Tools > Folder Options > View > Check the "Show hidden files and folders"

They are probably located in a subfolder of

C:\Documents and Settings\I***USERNAME***\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities

unless you've moved them previously

If you were directed to www.michaelstevenstech.com for instructions on
'repair' installs, there was a warning to BACKUP important documents etc..
before executing anything major, one should always backup important stuff..

Outlook Express stores data in *.DBX files

This computer was a co-workers who had left the Norton Expire and the
computer had 686 viruses on it. It's been a 2 day job - all files are intact
the only this missing is all of her emails!

And you don't have a back up policy for work related emails? Oh well,
maybe you can learn something from this situation.

Great!! Address books are in *.wab files, so perhaps do a search for those

Might find it in

C:\Documents and Settings\***USERNAME***\Application Data\Microsoft\Address
Book
