I have an XP Home system that I'm working on that has corrupt system files
that resulted from multiple viruses and spyware. The system has been
cleaned, but I need to know how to repair the corrupt files. I recall a
scan?? but can't seem to locate exactly what I'm looking for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

If they are corrupt Windows files, try the following from Start>Run - you
will need to have your XP CD to hand:

sfc /scannow

Thanks... that was driving me crazy!!

Is there anyway to run it without the CD? I have the files from the i386 on
a CD, but I currently don't have a Home Edition isntall CD. (I can get it
from the person that I'm doing the work for, just was hoping to save another
days wait for her to get her computer back)

Hi

You can try pointing to the i386 folder on the CD. Is there an i386 folder
on your hard disk/partition? That may work as well.

Tried that, it wouldn't even come up with a browse, just asked for the CD
and that was it.

Right now I'm trying to recover from problems that arrose from re-installing
IE. Now it won't even let me boot into normal or safe mode. I'm getting
missing dll warnings associated to bringing up the logon screen, then it
reboots.
