I've tried to repair my hard drive numerous times, but when it asks for
my password, nothing happens. Then what follows, is the dos prompt,
instead of repairing my hard drive. How can I fix it?

Don't feel bad - this is actually a very confusing part of the Windows
repair process.

When you boot to the CD with the intention of repairing your Windows
installation, the first time you see the option to Repair leads you to the
Recovery Console. This is misleading, since it means that *you* have to
take the responsibility to repair you Windows installation.

What you should do instead of pressing R for Repair at that point is press
Enter to continue. After that, Windows Setup will scan your hard drive for
previous Windows installations, and will give you the option to repair them.
This is the repair option that you want to choose.

Good luck!
