NOTE: IS THIS THE BEST GROUP FOR HELP ON REPAIR INSTALLS?

I did a recent repair install on my Satellite 3005-S307 in which it gave me
an error message on finding some file called kbfiltr.sys.

I had a system which was crashing on execution of any second command (IE I
could go into Notepad but as soon as I tried to type anything or I could go
into Photoshop but as soon aas I treid to highlight any file it would
crash).

This was something to do with uninstall of a hotfix prior to putative
installation of SP2.

It has left a system which let me use the keyboard while it was doing the
repair install to
enter the key and the enter button (to carry on at various stages) but
during install reboot crashed on
entering the administrator password!! I suspect that they system was
actually crashed at that stage as I dont think the cursor would move when I
touched the touchpad

Anyway on reboot it still gives an error message on a file called
DRI_KBFiltr which it says it cannot find. And when I reboot it STILL crashed
as soon as I try to use the keyboard. (all I was doing was to try to delete
the half to a whole gig swap file on a fullish C drive and put it solely on
the D drive, where there seems to have been one anyway). Norton Speedisk was
running in the background and it still is, (only the mouse cursr is crashed
as far as I can see)

(I should point out that the WHOLE keyboard doesn't work and crashes the
unit as soon as I try to use it as opposed to just the Dritek keys)

Thanks Carey Frisch but I suspect that the order in which I need to cure the
problem is FIRSTLY: figure out how to cure the crash within a few seconds of
start up (after your advice I did manage to installl the software upgrade
which you recommended: Lets see what it cures!!) SECONDLY figure out
possibly why there is no keyboard (I had two registry patches for that which
worked in the past THIRDLY try to install the EZ Button key controller
(which Microsoft says I dont need to use with their multimedia controllers)
IF it is known to work with XP Pro (whic no one seems to know) and lastly if
the problem still persists, figure out why the OS is sending no power to the
PCMCIA slots
