Just doing some regular cleaning and maintanance and notice in my Windows
directory a folder called repair. There are a few large files here that I'd
like to delete. I use TrueImage to backup to an external drive. Do I really
nead this folder and files? Thanks.

Victor,
It's up to you whether you delete these or not (don't think Windows will
complain), but the Repair folder is actually a copy of (essentially) the
Registry as it was when XP was first installed. Should your registry break,
you'll need Repair to avoid having to re-install XP. Your choice, but
personally I'd leave it alone!
Regards,
Steve.

Not to mention if you *need* to erase the 6MB-20MB of data usually found in
the repair folder, you may want to instead consider purchasing an
inexpensive larger hard drive and applying your latest image to it and
moving on...

That folder and those files come in *extremely* handy when you get this
message or one like it:
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

And you need to use the procedure described here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545

The files in that folder are the startup registries created when you
installed XP.

It's a bit of a false economy to save space by deleting them, because if you
need them, you *really* need them.
