Our son has renamed our computer. I now have 28,000 files
lost on my hard drive I need to know if there is anyway
to retreive those files? If so how do I retreive them
without loosing everything saved to his folders?

Renaming a PC would not cause file loss in any way I can think of.

Can you describe what you mean by "renamed our computer"?

Please reply in newsgroup.

I had set up the computer with 4 users and my name was
adminstrator. He has now deleted all users off of the
computer and set up only one user with his name. Now all
of my files are gone.

Wow.

Okay - there is only one possibility. You need to look in the C:\Documents
and Settings folder and see if you see the old usernames (as directory
names) there. If he removed the users but did not delete the files, you may
be able to somewhate recover.

You *will* need to be an administrative user to do this.

Also, I don't think he could have deleted the Administrator user.. Only
renamed it.

If those files are truly very important, you might want to unplug that
computer now and take it to a data recovery company. The more you use the
computer, the more likely it is that those files will be overwritten and
lost forever.

If the files are only moderately important, you can look on the internet for
unerase programs and see if that works.

On the other hand, maybe you got lucky and he de-activated the accounts
instead of deleting them entirely, or maybe he got rid of the accounts but
not the documents.

Good luck.
