Renaming external floppy drive from B:/ to A:/

The subject says it all. I need my new external floppy drive to be named A:/
because of some old software I have that only makes a backup to the A drive.
I can't figure out how to do it. My old external was A and I have deleted
that but whenever I install the new drive, it automatically takes the name
B:/. Thanks for your help!

I't been a while so here goes:
If your PC floppy cable has two connectors on it, the A drive should use the
connector at the end of the cable.

I should have mentioned that it is a USB external floppy drive. It just has a
USB cable to plug in. IT installs fine but it automatically assigns the name
B:/ and I need it installed as A:/.
Thanks!

Get into your BIOS, one of the options is to swap floppy drives (Ie: A
to B) in your case to A

Don't think this works on a USB cable'd floppy, needs the floppy
cable.

Yep, you might try that route, if that doesn't work post back; I think
I know another way to do this.

I don't seem to be able to get anywhere in the BIOS. No options seem helpful
iwth Windows XP. I appreciate the help!

Move your internal floppy drive to the middle ( not the end connector) on
the cable then try the external drive after first rebooting the see if the
internal floppy is now B.

I do not have an internal floppy drive at all. My Dell did not come with one.
I only have the USB external floppy drive which has a built in cable.

There is a program I use called RamDisk it's drive location is B - If
it loads first it might knock the USB to A

I use Ramdisk as a download area, for the junk one downloads thru the
day PDF's, program you want to look at, whatever - it's clear'd each
reboot and nothing left on the Harddrive - so it's a very useful

It can be found here - free at the bottom http://www.ramdisk.tk/
It's got popups and Opera won't load the site - I had to use IE, so I
couldn't get a direct link to the file.

Start | Run <type in> devmgmt.msc <enter> to edit the RAMdisk device

you might also be able to change drive settings in
Start | Run <type in> DISKMGMT.MSC <enter>

I tried your suggestions plus a few other things and SOMEthing worked! I am
not sure what! Thanks loads!
