Just wondering how can I rename a file, including its extension, when its
extension is hidden - without changing the settings in the OS to show all
file extensions?

Why not change the settings in Windows Explorer instead: Tools/Folder
Options/View, find the `hide extensions' box, and, assuming it has been
checked, uncheck it.

Can't change what you cant see. Either choose to show the
extensions or do it from the cmd prompt

What happens when you right click on the file, click rename and then type in
the new name with the extension??

This is a good option with the CMD prompt. It's not very handy to
Hide/Unhide extensions. I've also find small prgms on download.com that do
the job.
Cheers!
