I have a couple of CD drives named E and F. In windows 98 I was able to
rename one of them to "R" which made it easier to spot the drive I preferred
for recording. any way I can do that in win xp?
thanks

Yes. Righ-click on My Computer and choose Manage. Choose Disk
Management. In teh lower-right pane, right-click on the drive and choose
Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Right click My Computer and select "Manage" to open the computer Management
Console. In the left pane select and double click "Disk Management". In the
right pane right click the CD-Rom device and select the option to change
paths and letter. From there you can change the drive letter.

Don't change the drive letter for the CD-Rom device you used to install
Windows as this can pose a problem if you run SFC /SCANNOW. If you do decide
to change that drive letter then you should do a small registry hack to
enable SFC to locate the path to the CD-Rom device.

Try this,

1) Right click on 'My Computer' icon
2) Select 'Manage'
3) Pick 'Disk Management' on the left
4) Right click on the drive you want to change
5) Select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...'
6) Click 'Change...'
7) Pick your new drive letter from the list
8) Click 'Ok'
9) Click 'Yes'
10) Close the 'Computer Management' window

Then go to the registry to change the source paths.
