Rename Hardware Device

I have one USB web camera and one USB scanner attached to my computer. However, each of these devices shows up in My Computer as

1) Scanner #2
2) PC Camera #

I have attempted to rename it to something of the form Scanner #1 or PC Camera #1 and receive the following error message "Cannot rename PC Camera #3: A device with the name you specified already exists, or the name is invalid. Specify a different name.

Can anyone help identify why this problem is appearing or if there's a way I can identify all the devices that are installed incorrectly.

Either the drivers were defective or you originally plugged them into
different USB ports. To see what I mean - move them to yet another USB port
they have never been in... You might get another level up.

It's not a big deal. Cosmetics really.
