I recently networked two of my puters together. They are
both running XP and since the link, I have not been able
to rename logical drives. I have tried from either
computer and have even taken down the net to rename , no
luck.I guess I am the admin since I am the only person
that ever touched either computer, however I do not have a
lot of knowledge on Admin rights. Thanks in advance. Mike

What you do mean by "rename" ?
In the properties there is a place for description text.
Is it this , which is also what you change with a right
click / rename on other folder node in Explorer ?

What does happen ?
When asking for assistance, telling what you want to
happen that does not happen only tells us that you are
not being satisfied.
To understand why, what you need to do is tell what
you try and what does (not does not) happen. "I get
this message", or "it acts like it is working but then
the popup just closes and nothing changed", or . . .

Roger ,I want to change the Name of a logical Drive, I
have tried
Cont>AdminTools>CompManagement>DiskManage>Properties> And
tried to rename Local Disk (E) To Files (E)...Error Window
Pops up and says "You do not have sufficient rights to
perform this operation" I can tell you more but I try not
to be too descriptive as some of your bretheran MVP have
sharp tongues Or should I say typing fingers..Thanks Mike

OK, I now understand where you are trying this.
I do assume you use an admin account, so just
verify that Administrators do have Full Control
on the root of that E: partition
You may do this at cmd prompt with command
cacls E:
and see if among all the things listed it says
BUILTIN\Administrators:F

If it is not an NTFS permissions issue, as the
above will show, then something is broken.

I was in my first post trying to see if you wanted to
change the drive letter or the descriptive text.

Sorry you have had that experience with some MVPs.
There are now so, so many more new ones I sometimes
wonder if the old criteria of professional courtesy have
changed.

Thanks for your help Roger. You are correct, I am changing
my Descriptive Text, as my system and network have grown I
no longer able to recollect Drive numbers, hence the
importantce of the text. I do not believe anything is
broken as this is a brand new install on 2 Dell Pent4's. I
am cleaning house and installing new OS's before bringing
them into net and they both refuse to change Text. I ran
your Command and this is what I got.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>cacls E:
E:\ Everyone:F
Everyone:<OI><CI><IO>F
Everyone:<OI><CI>C

Thanks, Mike
