Lost my disk for windows 2000 but have a disk for windows
ME that I wouldlike to install but can't as it's an
earlier version. Can anyone help an idiot?

does the ME disk boot ? then format the drive

I assume you are after a complete new install ?

Moving from Win2000 to WinME is a backwards step - Win2000
is a far superior operating system!

Still, if you must, boot your machine with your WinME CD,
then allow your hard disk to be formatted. You will, of course,
lose all information on the hard disk. To boot your machine
with the WinME CD, tell your BIOS that the CD is your
first boot device.

If you still have your license, etc. and it is a retail version call
Microsoft and ask for a replacement disk. W2K cost $300.00 retail and
$149.99 generic OEM.

nope it does not allow format from the install cd.
also if you have the hd formatted as NTFS a ME boot floppy
will not see the partition, you need to get an NTDOS boot
floppy do a search on google for NTDOS boot image, they
are downloadable. then format your hd using FAT32 once
formatted and partitioned as you want, then boot with your
ME install CD and install ME, Why you want to go back to
ME is beyond me, W2k is much more stable, just bite the
bullet and get the OEM install CD. worth it believe me.
