Removing the password requirement when importing/opening a pst fil

I backed up and also archived several outlook pst files. I've since resaved
them from CDs to my hardrive and removed the read only attribute.
Nevertheless, everytime I try to open them I get a dialog box asking for the
password. The problem is, I never set a password in the first place.

Does anyone know how to get around this? I've been trying to figure this
out for months.

Thanks

This is an indication that the process you used has corrupted the PSTs. You
may be able to use SCANPST to repair them or the freeware tool
http://www.computerhope.com/download/updates/pst19upg.zip to strip the
password, but it may not work for an Outlook 2003 PST.

The way to "get around" it is to be careful when you make the original copy
of the PST. Make sure Outlook isn't running (using Task Manager or
Knockout, if needed) when you copy the PST. Never export a PST you're later
going to use in Outlook. Don't import, either, just File>Open>Outlook Data
File.
