I have a XP SP1a machine that was until recently, hooked
up to a Netgear RP614 Ver. 1.0 Home DSL/Cable router to
share my DSL line. But the router was starting to fail on
me, so I sent it back for an RMA replacement. So now, I
have my machine hooked up directly to my Verizon DSL
modem. But I keep on getting endless DCOM errors in Event
Viewer, as I think my PC just endlessly looks for the
Netgear router (which is odd since I never installed any
software for the router on my PC. All the ADMIN functions
are through Internet Explorer.) Verizon Tech support
doesn't know what month it is, thats how out of it they
are when I called. They say it's a XP/Netgear problem, so
I thought I'd post here.
The router also acted as a DHCP server for this, and
another computer. So maybe thats the DCOM server its
trying to launch?? Just a guess. Well now it can't find
the 'server.' I have tried to set a manual IP Address for
my NIC card, but this creates more problems, and actually
delays XP startup by about a minute.
Anyone have an idea of how I can fix this, until I get my
new router? BTW, I have no desire to remove DCOM. I
just want a fix until I get my home router back.
Thanks.
