Hello all,

I have several, unnecessary programs in Open With...>Recomended Programs area of the shortcut menu for text files that I would like
to remove.

How can I remove these?

I'm guessing it is a registry tweak. If so, please let me know which branch and key to edit.

Is anybody else willing to give advice.

Sorry Detlev Dreyer, but I'm not going to run a program that someone I don't know sends me.

I know there has to be a registry tweak out there that some one knows of.

If anyone knows the branch & key of the registry that I need to edit to remove these unwanted Recommended Programs, please post it
here.

Thanks again,

Conan Kelly

Although I understand this attitude, I did not "send" any program. I was
referring to a tool created by my fellow-MVP Doug Knox and I know Doug
in person for a long time. Why don't you check out his web site:

That's certainly a prudent position to take, however in this case Detlev
didn't send you a program. He sent you a link to a web site. Doug Knox's
site is one of the must well-known and trusted XP help sites on the web, and
there is no reason to distrust it. Moreover, I know both Doug and Detlev
personally, and if a third-party assurance is any help to you, I will vouch
for both of them. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with one of
Doug's tweaks.

Conan,

The program was written by a longstanding MVP, and from a trusted source.
However, if you want to clear the open with listings manually, check out the
following article.

Sorry everyone if I ruffled some feathers, but I don't monitor this newsgroup unless I have a question posted, which is very rarely.
So I don't know who is legitimate, who is an MVP, etc...

Detlev sent me a link to download the program directly without any explanation of the program, who created it, and what not. The
only thing in the zip file was the program itself, no read-me's or instructions of any sort. So I was a bit scepticle. If he gave
a little background on the program and posted the link to the "utilities" page where you can download it from
(http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils) and told me which one to download, I might have been more trusting.

Besides, I was mainly looking for a registry branch and key to edit (Thank you Ramesh) so I could do it myself.

Thanks again for all of your help and once again, sorry if I ruffled some feathers,

Conan
