removing programs

When i enter the add/remove program screen I get message that it is searching
for list. Problem is it never finishes the search.

Don't know the answer to the OP's problem, but wanted to jab at
the planet dog there.

OP: You need to include a lot more info to get the best help.
Such as:
a.. Describe the symptoms of your problem or bug carefully and
clearly.

a.. Describe the environment in which it occurs (machine, OS,
application, whatever). Provide your vendor's distribution and
release level (e.g.: “Fedora Core 4”, “Slackware 9.1”, etc.).

a.. Describe the research you did to try and understand the
problem before you asked the question.

a.. Describe the diagnostic steps you took to try and pin down
the problem yourself before you asked the question.

a.. Describe any possibly relevant recent changes in your
computer or software configuration.

a.. and so on.
