Removing Msn messenger

I have been trying to remove the MSN messenger from my computer and it keeps telling me that it is being use by another program and it cannot be removed. What is that other program and how do I find out what tha other program is
Please help I hate MSN messenger and I want it off..

You don't want to remove it, but you do want to stop it from running, right?
Do the following to disable it
Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and press Enter, then click the Startup ta
Now look for msmsgs and uncheck it - click Apply and O
Reboot your system.
 
Go into the control panel -> add/remove programs and then
Windows Components and uncheck windows messenger.

Alternatively if you are running XP Pro, click start ->
run and type 'gpedit.msc'. Goto the Administrative
Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Messenger and
enable both of the policies.

there have been over 1,864, 247 post on this topic along with countless
posts to the WWW on this...do a few GOOGLE searches......
