Hi

I'm trying to get rid of the Lilo bootloader as I am no longer running
Mandrake Linux and have reformatted the drive onwhich it was held. I removed
the Mandrake Lilo from within Linux OK but a residual Debian version of Lilo
still appears on boot from a previous installation.

I've tried the MS recommended option of creating a MS DOS boot disk but when
I boot with this the command fdisk /mbr is not recognised. In any case none
of the computer's drives can be accessed anyway. Can anyone help me with
this?

If you use a win98 startup disk, this method will work. The disk needs to
have fdisk on it.
or:
Boot from the Windows XP CD, press the key "R" in the setup in order to
start the restoration console. Select your Windows XP installation from the
list, and enter the administrator password. Enter the command "FIXMBR" at
the input prompt and confirm the next question with "y". Finally, use "exit"
to restore the computer.
