The WindowsXP upgrade advisor lists a number items under the heading
"Software that Does Not Support Windows XP." It suggests removing the
programs before installing XP.

Most of these items are in the Control Panel. I do not know (or at
least remember) where they came from, but they are not listed in the
Add/Remove Programs list.

Three items in particular are:
Disk Detector
SpeedStream Status
Xteq X-Setup.

How do I uninstall these items from the Control Panel if they are not
in the Add/Remove Programs list?

Clifford,

If they aren't in the Add/Remove programs list, go to C:\Program Files and
look for the Folders for each program (often listed by mfr). Open Folder and
see if there is an "uninstall" utility that came with the particular
program. If so, run it. If not, you won't find a clean way to remove it and
all the vestiges of the program (poor program design causes this problem).
[If they aren't under C:\Program Files, check under C:\ to see if they
installed at the root Folder.]

Things like this is what makes it highly recommended to copy off all data to
a removable medium and do a clean install of a new OS. This allows you to
NOT re-install old/problem programs, but requires the time to re-install all
the programs you want.
