Hi,

I have now have....

C: -- running .net server beta (expired) -- System
E: -- running xp pro -- Boot

I have retired using C: since it's expired long time ago
anyways but lazy to remove it. Now I'm trying remove this
dual boot, by running in single-boot directly on E:
trying to free up the C drive but winxp wouldn't allow me
to format C drive, says it's a System drive. So,
basically what should i do now to return to single
booting E:

thanks for helping

dee

The problem is that all of your master boot record is on your "C" drive
therefore even if you manage to wipe it with a boot disk your computer will
not boot into XP anymore because it wont know where it is without doing a
repair installation.
choices:1......... install a new version of XP onto C formatting during the
process
then you'll have to decide what to do about that version
on "E"
2.......format the "C" drive with a 98 boot disk AND THEN
Try booting up using the XP CD-ROM and choose to
repair. Then choose the
Recovery Console Option...
Choose the number corresponding to your XP version
and enter your
Administrator Password (then press enter).
After that you'll see a command prompt...enter the
following command:

bootcfg /rebuild" command to fix
boot.ini.
FIXBOOT will fix the boot
sector on the boot drive,
FIXMBR will fix the master
boot record if the NT loader
complains of
a missing HAL or unmountable boot volume.

After the process is completed enter the
command EXIT to quit (and the
system should auto reboot OK from that
point onwards...
I'd go with #2
