I have a worksheet in which there is some data that I cannot delete. I
can highlight the cells behind this data, but not the data itself. Any
suggestions? This is a shared workbook/sheet.

Is it a picture of data?

If not, how are you trying to delete it?

Delete rows or columns. (Maybe the worksheet is protected, too.)

Selecting the range and hitting the delete key (or edit|clear|contents) would
fail if the range were locked and the worksheet were protected, too.

And finally, if it isn't these, what version of xl are you running? (It may
help the next person with the correct answer.)

I am using EXcel 2000 (9.0.4402 SR01). And it looked like it was
picture data. When I hilighted the rows in the backgorund an
copy/pasted to Word I saw it was simular to a picture. What I did wa
copy the whole sheet and create a new one as this eliminated thi
unwanted data.
The strange thing was that with the data in word I found that is wa
grouped and when I ungrouped it I could delete one line at a time, bu
the overall 'box' would stay, I also got a option to ise Visio (hmm) t
work woth this data

If you rightclicked on that area, could you see the "grab handles" near the
border of the "picture"? If you hit the delete key, did the picture go away?

And maybe you can use this technique in future workbooks.

If you select the range you want, you can Edit|copy, then select a new range and
Shift-Edit|Paste Picture (or even shift-Edit|paste picture Link).

Then you'll have a picture of the range. Might be useful if you want to print
discontiguous ranges or even paste into a different application.
