I really hope somebody can help me out over here. I've
got a lot of audio and video codecs installed on my pc.
About two months ago, I stopped being able to hear the
audio that accompanied a video in Windows Media Player.
Yesterday, this problem has spread to all of my video
files. I can listen to MP3's just fine, but video files
do not have accompanying audio anymore.

Rather than trying to figure out exactly what it is, I
would just like to remove my audio and video codecs and
then reinstall them. Can anybody tell me how to go about
doing this? I've been searching the web high and low for
a while and have not found anything. Microsoft has a
support article related to this on windows 98, but it
does not apply to Windows XP unfortunately.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it, and if
you don't mind I'd really appreciate it if you could drop
your reply into my email. Thanks a lot for your time and
help.

There is no simple way to delete codecs. Each media application has its own codecs
There is a directory under Windows called Codecs and if you open it, it will sho
you many DLL (Dynamic Link Libraries), pertaining to many factors. If you delet
these your system may no longer have sound or media functions.
The best way is to uninstall your soundcard, delete applications that are medi
programs, such as MusicMatch Jukebox, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, etc.
Then reinstall your soundcard and only the programs you want to use
But, be careful, you may create a "monster" with NO sound or video capabilities
Best bet, 'DON'T FIX IT IF IT DON'T NEED FIXIN'
