I removed old HP software for a printer from my system. However once windows
begins to display my desktop and begin running applications I get the
message: "Windows cannot find HPLJSW.EXE. Make sure..... then click send" and
a Desktop box message stating: "Desktop could not load or run HPLSW.EXE....
remove reference to it in the registry". My problem is I deleted this
particular file HPLJSW.EXE but I do not seem to know how to eliminated the
request for it in the system configuration utility.

Hi,

Click start/run, type regedit and click ok. Expand the plus (+) signs to
reach these keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Click on the key, then look in the right pane for the string that loads that
file. Click on that string, then delete it.

I went to both locations. Could not locate the string. Only one for MS
messenger was there.

Run regedit and remove the calls to the file in the registry. Also
search win.ini and system.ini for the same.

Hi,

In addition....check under Start/Control Panel/Printers and remove it. Also
go to Start/Run/Regedit and type in: HPLJSW.EXE

Remove every reference. Other checkpoints are listed below (ignore the
title). Good luck and keep us posted if you are needing any more help:

Hi,

Click start/run, type msinfo32 and click ok. Expand the software
environment, then click on the startup programs. Click edit/select
all/edit/copy. Then open a response to this post. Click in the message text
area, then hit ctrl+v to paste the contents for examination.

place a semicolon at the beginning of that line. Then close saving changes
and reboot to see if this corrects the problem.

I think Rick has it covered, but if you still have a problem you might be
interested in autoruns from

There no program more thorough for finding startup items and the list it
builds is can be searched by file name.
