I reinstalled and now I have a 2nd Win XP (Home ed) in the Boot List.. How
do I remove the extra version and release that disk space?

I have the exact same problem. Somehow, the system32 file became corrupted. The repair option wouldn't work and I had to reinstall. Now I get the message

Please select operating system to star

Microsoft Windows XP Home Editio
Microsoft Windows XP Home Editio

The default version (in the first position) works. The 2nd choice has the corrupted file and doesn't boot. How do I remove it from the options?

Thanks, it worked for me (i did try searching, but probably wasn't using the right phrase)
Tried looking for boot.ini, but it is a hidden file and wasn't showing up
All better now.
