As a safeguard, when I installed my Vista upgrade, I did so on a partitioned
drive G leaving XP on C and the HP recovery goodies on D. A week later, I've
tested all of my software and hardware and am happy with Vista and wonder if
it's possible to remove the XP and the partitions C and D or do I have to go
through a complete reinstallatin and setup of Vista? I've looked at some of
the various threads and fear this is what I'll have to do but it's not
totally clear to me. Help, anyone?

You will lose your Vista boot, but can repair it with the Vista DVD,
so your answer to having to do a complete reinstallation is no - you
won't have to do that if you remove the XP and HP recovery partitions,
but you will have to repair Vista startup with the Vista install DVD.
