I have removed Win98 from my c: drive and reformatted c: to NTSF.

1.How do I get rid of the boot menu on startup?

2. Due to an earlier problem, I have "lost" about 25% of my c: drive. There
is nothing left on it I need except for the necessary startup files. Can and
if yes how do I reformat C; without killing xp on D: ( Have checked the disk
with Norton, and can find no physical or logical errors.)

Hi KSB,

I have removed Win98 from my c: drive and reformatted c: to NTSF.

1.How do I get rid of the boot menu on startup?

Go to Start > Run > msconfig
boot.ini tab and click 'check all paths.'

2. Due to an earlier problem, I have "lost" about 25% of my c: drive. There
is nothing left on it I need except for the necessary startup files. Can and
if yes how do I reformat C; without killing xp on D: ( Have checked the disk

First make a XP bootable floppy containing the files boot.ini, ntldr,
ntdetect.com (found in the C drive)
You could format the C drive using the recovery console in the Windows
XP CD, copy the three files back to the C drive and use the command
fixmbr
For you to be able to copy the files using the recovery console you
have to go to group policy editor first (which is only available in
Windows XP Professional) and enable the command to use all paths to
reach the C drive, according to the following article, specifically,
you have to be able to use the command
set AllowAllPaths = TRUE

Before you proceed, check that you can use this command in the
recovery console.

Hope this helps
