remove text watermark

I have read all the previous posts on this topic and have tried each "solution" only to be left with a text watermark that I cannot remove.

It is only on the first page of the document. I have figured out a way to get my document printed as two documents so I can submit it as a final document, but I want to know how to really resolve this for the future.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Hi, Terri. If you click at the beginning of the first line of the SECOND page of the document, then look at the status indicator at the bottom left corner of the screen (just above the Start button), does the status indicator say Section 3? If so, then the reason you can't delete the watermark is that it is anchored to the hidden header for Section 2. Press the UpArrow key until you get to Section 2, then press Ctrl+Enter to insert a page break. Delete the watermark. Then delete the page break you just inserted.

Thanks! I had just seen your reply to someone in the Office section and I'll give them a try tomorrow ... too tired now! Thanks again!

It may also be possible that the watermark is anchored to the First Page
Header or Footer, if there are no Sections in the document. To check that,
try View | Headers Footers, each Header will be labeled, and you should be
able to put your cursor in the First Page Header/Footer, select the anchor
for the watermark, and delete.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. Neither, however, resolved the issue. My text watermark is the word "draft" diagonally across the first page only of an 11 page document with NO page breaks and two continuous section breaks and a column break on page 10. As I said earlier, I figured out a way to get the ist page as part of a separate document without the watermark, but just need to know how to do this for the principle of the thing. Got any other ideas? Thanks!
