Hello Everyone,
I have several clients that have errors when logging off their xp pro
workstations from a windows 2000 server. The Domain Group Policy is to
Redirect their "My Docs" folders to a server directory. Keep getting an
error that their .pst and .mdb files cannot be syncronized on the server.
How do I exclude these and any other future files of this sort. Also, how do
I get users to avoid saving these files to their "my docs" location to avoid
future issues. Thanks.

Don't redirect it if you don't want them using it? That's the purpose of
redirecting to the network, so you have a common place, that's network
accessible, for ease of backup/recovery purposes, without have to backup
files on each individual machine.

The logon/logoff errors with synchronizing is caused by improper permissions
being assign to the profile (logon) for the redirected folder(s) on the
server. There is a MSKB doc on the proper configuration, but off the top of
my head I seem to remember they, the user, must have "FULL" permissions to
"THEIR" folder only - as it should be a hidden mapped share on the network
that only the "USER" and Domain Admins can see.

Why redirect their pst file to a network storage location? If you are
going to do that, just let them store their mail in folders created in
the Exchange hierarchy (their Inbox, assuming you are using Exchange).
You achieve the same results for backup purposes.

Otherwise, your users can quickly eat away your storage space. It's
not uncommon, where I work, for a lot of users to have a gigabyte, or
more, of stored messages. I would much rather they waste their OWN
hard drive space than my precious network storage space.
