Remove paragraph/line break between tables

I downloaded a business document in Word format. It contains a numbered
list, and each item in the list appears as its own table. That's fine,
except Word is inserting a paragraph/line break between each of the tables.
I can download the same document on my boss' computer and there is no
paragraph/line break between tables. We've changed numerous settings, as
well as the global template, but nothing seems to work. How do I remove the
extra paragraph/line between tables?
 
I find it very difficult to believe that "Word is inserting" anything. It's
quite possible that the document's formatting appears different on a
different computer (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm), but only an inspection
with nonprinting characters displayed (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm) will reveal whether
there is actually an empty paragraph between the tables.

If you can provide the link from which you downloaded the document, we can
take a look at it.
